about

"III" is the third EP by Ryan Hutchens created under the "Cancellieri" name. It was released on June 4, 2013 through the Post Echo record label in Columbia South Carolina. The "III" EP was recorded over the course of several months in the spring of 2013 at the home of Alex McCollum (Stagbriar, ET Anderson) in the Rosewood neighborhood of Columbia South Carolina.

With the "III" EP, Ryan saught to move away from the electronic soundscape roots of the Cancellieri project in favor of more traditional american songwriting and instrumentation rooted in Folk and Americana. At the time he was writing the songs for "III", Ryan was performing regularly as a solo acoustic singer songwriter at small venues around Columbia and on street corners around the US.

Alex McCollum acted as producer, recording engineer, and instrumentalist on the EP. Alex had a large role to play in shaping the overall sound of the EP because this was Ryan's first time recording his own music using the traditional "rock" instrumentation. Kenny McWilliams mastered "III" at Archer Avenue Studio in Columbia South Carolina. Patrick O'Neil wrote and performed the cello parts on "Tribal Glory" and "Western States". Brandon Edwards wrote and performed the drum part on "Higher"

Track Name: Storyteller
Slow down you're feeling tiny, I know its new what we're trying to do here but you'll be fine, its all in the timing and when we're through you'll still feel like new. Just a little more used, just a little more you, just a little more you.

Calm down you're only lonely at night, sometimes the feeling gets phony but it's alright we're not in the movies, it's life in time we'll feel out our worries. We'll tell our own stories, we'll tell our own stories, we'll tell our own stories.

I've been here before, I've seen how it goes down. You're feeling pretty sure, you're feeling it out loud. I'm standing by the door, I'm counting my mistakes. I'm feeling pretty sure, it'll never be to late. It'll never be to late. It'll never be too late. It'll never be too late.
Track Name: Tribal Glory
James Usher said in a dream he saw the tallest man sew the smallest seam from the bottom of the ocean to the top of the hills in South Carolina where they're paying bills and he said, "A sad situation has left everyone tasteless, and full automation is keeping them wasted. They crowd in to worship and dress up old stories, but each one is worthless without tribal glory."

I've been going down to the ocean finding strength in the waves and the motion and that God only knows the passing of time so we question the coast until Death can tell us why we're partial to breathing and naming our children for things we believe in and passing the seasons with the best kind of feeling gathered around fire and seeing forced smiles one day, one day when we're dying.

We might be mistaken for shouting about freedom. What the hell are we thinking as if they need beating. It's yours for the taking, its a summers vacation, its a hard reputation, its a God fearing nation.
Track Name: Higher
Only get away on the holidays. Try to get a feeling that I'm a man of family. I don't really see any other way. When I get tired, I go higher and higher and higher (higher).

Always found reason to entertain. Did it for a smile before I ever knew what the money meant. And now found reasons to overstay. Love and the feeling of a family, they know everything, they were higher (higher).

Only found peace on the interstate. No one said running, I'm just looking for a new way. To love the ones I keep and leave the rest to waste. When I get tired, I go higher and higher and (higher, higher)
Track Name: Western States
It's a simple life but the feeling inside is the best I can do and I've made up my mind. I will wash my face and I won't steal again. You don't have to be patient, we'll start at the end. And when life starts again it'll be at our hands.

Walking this line is taking it's toll. Knowing your home won't be my home. Number nine all in a row. The contest is won my conscience is worn out from the load, I'm tired to the bone.

I read your lines. It's a warning sign. You're all invited to see my shame. I'll pass you by. All in good time. You're more than welcome to walk away. If it's ever right. Now's the time. Because I'm leaving town for the western states.
